What Can We Trust?

This morning in my Environmental Biology class we discussed objective and subjective statements, and whether or not our belief in things are based on actual analysis or blatant acceptance. This made me think: What is really the truth? Can we trust what we read in textbooks, on the internet, or hear in the news? We constantly subject ourselves to propaganda, persuasion, advertisements telling us what to believe, what to buy, how to dress, etc. Why do we take all these things at face value? Is it unreasonable to analyze everything we are told, or are we just too lazy to do so?

You can answer these questions for yourself, but I have decided that acceptance is no longer good enough. I should not allow society to dictate my ideas and how I believe. How can I believe God exists without reading my Bible? I know he exists because I study his word, not because a guy in a suit told me so at a church.

Therefore, I urge you all to no longer take something at face value. We can't take the truth for granted, because there are so many lies in this world. Educate yourself, and choose for yourself how you want to live your life, for God is here so that you may have life, and have it abundantly. 

Let Us Live

Well hello there. Since this is my first post, let me tell you a little bit about this blog. Dum vivimus vivamus is a Latin phrase that means "While we live, let us live." For some reason, I just love that saying. Let us live! We are so bogged down by societal expectations and pressures that, sometimes, we lose sight of our own desires. I want to free myself of those restraints. Let me live. That's all I ask.

Howard Roark says in The Fountainhead, "I came here to say that I do not recognize anyone's right to one minute of my life. Nor to any part of my energy. Nor to any achievement of mine. No matter who makes the claim, how large their number or how great their need. I wished to come here and say that I am a man who does not exist for others."

Why can't we all live this way? My life is my life. You can't control it, nor can you have any part of it. It's a simple statement. Living it out is not so simple, though. In this blog, I will simply be myself. Read it, don't read it, but know that it exists just as I do.
